Meet the team

Dr. Ramon Rial Silva

Postdoctoral fellow

Materials · Biophysics · Tissues

Ramon completed the degree in Chemical Engineering, having conduted his final project on polymer extrusion for 3D printing at Politechnika Wrocławska (Poland). After this, he conducted his PhD in Materials Science at the USC, including research stays at Universidade do Minho (Portugal) and Uppsala Universitet (Sweden). After receiving the Margarita Salas Fellowship, he performed a two-year stay at the 3B's Research Group (Portugal), further developing an expertise in 3D printing, computational modeling, and microfluidics. In 2025, he joined descaffold to investigate protein behaviour in Deep Eutectic Solvents.

Beyond the lab, Ramon enjoys playing sports and spending time in nature. As a music enthusiast, he plays various instruments and perform with a folk group, often participating in foliadas and jam sessions. He is also an avid cinema lover and like winding down with a thought-provoking read every now and then.

Miguel No-Gomez

Doctoral candidate

Chemical biology · Nucleic acids

Miguel holds two BSc in Biology and Chemistry in the University of A Coruña (2022). For his Final Bachelor Projects he worked on the applications of Indium catalysis for the synthesis of new BODIPY derivatives and their cytotoxicological avaliation as new fluorescent dyes, joining SynCathMeth and NanoToxGen groups. Then, he obtained a Master in Organic Chemistry in USC (2023) and joined descaffold to study biomolecular adaptation and transport in Deep Eutectic Solvents.

Outside the lab, Miguel enjoys singing and listening to music, and spending time in nature.

Isabella Ewell

Doctoral candidate

Chemical biology · Protein biophysics

Isabella received her MSci in Chemistry with Biomedicine from King’s College London in 2025. During her studies she completed an internship at ITQB NOVA (Portugal) focused on synthesising molybdenum and tungsten organometallic complexes for catalytic applications. She completed her final year research project in the Brogan Group investigating plastic degradation in ionic liquids using surface-modified enzymes. She joined desscaffold as a doctoral candidate in 2026 to study biomolecular adaptation in compositionally designed Deep Eutectic Solvents and eutectogels.

In her spare time, Isabella enjoys playing guitar, hiking and reading.
